Formados en Isla Vista,California (Estados Unidos) en 1989,Ugly Kid Joe tocan Hard Rock/Heavy Metal con mucha sátira,por sus letras. De hecho,su nombre es una parodia del de la banda Pretty Boy Floyd.
Tuvieron bastante éxito a principios de los '90. Incluso telonearon a Ozzy Osbourne en una gira.
El primer video del tema llamado "Everything About You" se incluyó en la pelicula "Los Mundos De Wayne".
Su primer LP "American's Least Wanted" de 1992,vendió 500.000 copias solo en Estados Unidos.
Sus discos "Menace To Sobriety" de 1995 y "Motel California" de 1996 no tuvieron el éxito esperado,y la banda acabó separandose en 1997.
En 2010 se reunieron y grabaron ""Stairway To Hell" en 2012. Desde entonces están en activo.
