En 1979 el guitarrista Michael Schenker (Alemania,10 Ene,1955)(ex-Scorpions,ex-UFO,ex-Ratt),formó esta banda de Hard Rock/Heavy Metal llamada M.S.G.
Poco antes de formar el grupo,Schenker recibió ofertas para entrar en bandas como Aerosmith,Ozzy Osbourne,Kiss o Deep Purple,pero las declinó todas.
La banda en diferentes momentos se ha llamado Michael Schenker Group o McAuley Schenker Group.
Durante su carrera han grabado 29 álbums de estudio o recopilaciones.
