Fates Warning ha sido una de las primeras bandas de Metal Progresivo.
Se formaron en 1984 en Hartford,Connecticut (Estados Unidos).
Actualmente están fichados por el sello InsideOut Music.
En 2013 realizaron su 13º álbum de estudio,llamado "Darkness In A Different Light".
También han editado cuatro demos,un EP,un álbum en directo y una recopilación.
La actual formación es:
El guitarrista Jim Matheos (OSI,Arch/Matheos) miembro fundador desde 1984
El cantante Ray Adler (Redemption) desde 1987
El guitarrista Frank Aresti (Arch/Matheos) desde 1986 hasta 1996,y desde 2005 hasta ahora
El bajista Joey Vera (Arch/Matheos,Armored Saint,ex-Anthrax) desde 1997
El bateria Bobby Jarzombek (Halford,Sebastian Bach,ex-Iced Earth,ex-Riot) desde 2007
